Reading. Writing. Simply being.

Bad Traffic, Bad Writing

I was gripped by the first part of the book. The panicked phone call, the separation of Ding Ming and his wife–but, it’s as if after this point Lewis backed off too much. Most of the time the two are running around or driving around. I didn’t get a sense that I really knew the characters at all. Much of Wei Wei’s description seemed force, especially those in the thoughts of Jian. The biggest problem I had with the book lies with formatting. Paragraphs were cut at odd places, causing the suspense to be lost. This occurred especially in the fighting scenes. I did like the dynamic between Jian and Ding Ming; there was a bit of humor there.
